218 pins and 3 crystal trophies
*** Actually drafted this a while back but never got round to posting it, so this post should actually be dated March 23 2007 ***It was my firm's annual bowling tournament tonight and well I brought back 3 trophies again. Brought back 3 last year too but this year's haul was even sweeter. For starters, I bowled 218 pin game in the 2nd round (we have 3 rounds) which ended up being the highest individual game for a female.
I've never bowled over 200 pins before so I was pretty happy. I bowled 4 strikes in a row and either spared or got a strike on the rest of the frames in the game. Bowled terribly in the 3rd game but the my scores in the 1st and 2nd games more than made up for it. I actually thought I had lost to someone else but they ended up getting 3rd place while I managed to get 1st for the individual female trophy! I must of written down her scores wrong - hope the bowling alley didn't screw up on the calculations lol.
My team also managed to bag the overall team championship all thanks to our second round where we scored 703 pins as a team while the 2nd place team only managed to score 548. As a team we did miserably in the final round but we had built up enough of a point cushion in the 1st and 2nd round so even though we lost to them in the final round by about 100 pins we had a cushion of about 160 pins so we ended up coming first. This is the 3rd year I've been part of this team and this is the second time we've won as a team. We came second last year but it was close fight. One of my teammates also managed to bag 2nd place in the individual male competition (a repeat performance for him) so as a team we did pretty good. All first place winners also got gift certificates from Metro - team and highest individual game got $20 each while I got $40 for the individual female competition - woohoo I've got $80 worth of gift certs, maybe I'll spend it on shoes or some nice luggage for my next firm trip lol.
It was kind of embarrassing cos I did clean sweep, whereas the guy who got the highest individual game male and individual male champion did get manage to get a team trophy. Actually my department (I'm in the litigation department - just call us the "liti" department) did pretty well on a whole - the tournament is an inter-department competition. There were 18 teams competiting in total, 7 of which were from liti. For the team event, liti bagged 1st and 2nd place. For the individual male competition, liti bagged the 2nd and 3rd place and I was the sole representative for the individual female competition.
Here are some pics of my trophies and the tournament...

Earthquakes and Evacuations
Ok so it's like 4 pm and I'm happily at home from the office...reason? Earthquakes and evacuation.
Ok so here's what happened. Just before 12 noon there was a 6.3 earthquake over in Sumatra, Indonesia, which is like 450 kms from Singapore and well tremors could be felt all over the island but especially in the downtown business district. A few people in my office felt tremors and my sis also felt tremors over at her building which is like 2 kms from mine. She said her blinds were like going nuts. I myself did not feel anything but then I was moving around at the time the tremors started (note - my boss didn't sense anything either). Anyway the building management thought it would be wise to evacuate the building so that's what we did - I had to convince my boss that we were supposed to evacuate cos he didn't believe me when I told him it was because of an earthquake in Indonesia. Because it was nearly lunchtime, we all decided to go for an extended lunch hehehe.
So that's what Julie and I did...headed over to a nice little cafe of sorts and had lunch and chit chatted. We had both grabbed our bags when we left the office just in case. When we headed back to the office at around 2 we found out there had been another earthquake in Indonesia (same place but this time measuring 6.6) and again it had been felt in our building as well as a bunch of other places. I called to check with my sis and she said her building have been evacuated already. Our building on the other hand was not evacuated by the building management but our senior management thought not to take any chances and closed the office for the day, sent everyone home and told the lawyers to work from home.
So I got home at around 3 pm - giving my mom a bit of a shock - and now I'm chillin' out at home watching tv hehehe. My poor sis had to stay at her office, her boss apparently didn't think it was a big deal. I messaged my friend Howard (his office is like 6 floors below mine) just after we were evacuated the first time but didn't get any response from him till I got home. He was on a plane when it happened on his way to Seoul and only saw my message when he turned his phone on upon landing.
Ok I'm going to enjoy the rest of my day watching tv...at least today I don't have to rush home to catch the Taiwan drama that's on at 7 pm lol. Buzz Buzz - you should try to watch this show cos it's really cute and funny. It's called Hana Kimi or Hua Yang Shao Niao Shao Nu. You can watch it online at this
Veoh channel there's only 15 episodes plus one Chinese New Year game show special. You're sure to laugh while watching every episode. BTW the link I gave you works kind of like youtube but if you register with them (it's free) and download their client software, you can download the videos they offer. That's what I do - download and make my own dvds but right now I'm still watching the one on tv while waiting for the final episode to be uploaded. The show just finished in Taiwan over the weekend so just waiting for that person to do the subtitles and upload the vid file.
