Upcoming vacation
I know it's been a while since I did an update but really there's been nothing happening apart from the usual work and me working on creating subtitles for a Taiwan series I like and preparing from my upcoming leave!
Ok regarding the Taiwan series, I sort of fell in love with this series called "Prince Who Turns into a Frog" and even went to far as to buy the box set, problem, it's in Chinese with no English subtitles. When they showed it on the tv station here, they added English subtitles to the show. Now I've managed to get hold of the video files for the verision that was shown on Singapore tv however there is a slight difference in the Taiwan version and the Singapore version. It seems that in Taiwan they showed 20 episodes while Singapore showed 30. Basically what Singapore did was they took 2 Taiwan episodes and cut them into 3. You see in Taiwan each episode was about 90 mins (inclusive of commercials) while in Singapore they only show 60 mins. All in it works out the same but of course I want the subtitles to match up with my box set so what I'm doing is I'm typing up the subtitles from the Singapore version and taking not of the timings and what not and then later on I'll match it to my Taiwan box set. I know it seems like a lot of hard work but after watching a couple of episodes from my box set and a couple of the Singapore episodes I do notice a couple of differences so of course I would most definately want the Taiwan version lol.
Watching this series has also made me want to take up Mandarin lessons lol albeit conversational ones only - who needs to read and write?? I just want to be able to speak and listen so that I can watch Taiwan series without having subtitles hahahaha. Did some checking around and managed to find a conversation class that is starting up mid Jan at a CC (community centre) not too far from my place. It's 1.5 hrs once a week for 12 weeks and it only costs S$62 which I think is not bad at all. Trying to get my friend Terena to join me but in the event that she can't I'll definately be going on my own. In the meantime, I'm trying to improve my Mandarin by talking to my colleagues and picking up stuff from watching tv and that. I have to admit, my Mandarin is way better that what it was in high school - Cor, I think you know what I mean - hahahaha.
oh yeah, I'll be on leave my the 19th till the end of year - have 9 days of leave from 2004 to clear otherwise I forfeit them - so I won't be on the net much, given that I don't have a connection at home - just as well otherwise I'd never sleep hahahaha.
Well I've got to get back to my subtitling.
